Coronavirus Live Updates: India's tally crosses 8.7 lakh after 28,701 cases in 24 hours

With no sign of coronavirus cases falling in India, several states that have been worst hit by the virus outbreak have taken fresh measures to curb the rising infection spike. Several states including Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh observed a weekend lockdown; other states have also issued stricter lockdowns in worst-affected cities. At present, infections are rising sharply in India, with case figures for each day hitting a record high. The deadly virus has infected over 8.49 lakh people in the country so far. But there is good news. India’s recovery rate is on the rise and is currently above 62 per cent. Another ray of hope comes from Russia, where a university has successfully managed to complete the first clinical trial on humans. Sechenov University’s Chief Researcher Elena Smolyarchuk has confirmed the vaccine has been proved safe and volunteers will be discharged on July 15 and 20. It may be noted, however, there was no word on commercial production yet. Follow India Today.in for more live updates on Covid-19 pandemic:
